America's Cup World Series, Portsmouth
Thursday 21st - Sunday 24th July 2016
The America’s Cup is the oldest international sporting trophy and is a contest like no other. Whoever claims the ‘Auld Mug’ wins the right to decide the rules for the next contest such as what type of boats, when they should race and where.
The America’s Cup is both a sailing race and a design race. It is also a hugely competitive event with every Cup cycle dominated by maneuvering over the rules, the venue and the boat.
The America’s Cup is without doubt one of the most prestigious of all sporting competitions. In the 165 years since the first race, only four nations have been victorious. Despite the first race taking place in Cowes back in 1851, Britain has yet to win it.
