Horse Racing Hospitality

Professional horse racing can be traced back to Queen Anne in England, when in 1711 she founded Ascot Racecourse, now one of the world's greatest racecourses. Then in 1750 the racing elite gathered at Newmarket to form the Jockey Club, which to this present day exercises complete control over English racing.

Since 1814 five races for three-year-olds have been designated as "the classics". Three of these races make up the 'Triple Crown' - The 2000 Guineas at Newmarket, The Epsom Derby and the St Leger at Doncaster. The other two are the 1000 Guineas and The Epsom Oaks.

In modern times another race has established itself as a 'classic', that being the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes. This marvelous race at Ascot Racecourse usually brings the Epsom Derby winner against the best four-year-old horses in Europe.

Royal Ascot is Britain's most popular race meeting with an attendance of over 230,000 people annually. It is an international occasion of fashion and style and the horse racing is the finest anywhere in the world.

Two other race meetings are worth noting. The first is 'Glorious Goodwood' - at the world's most beautiful racecourse. The second is York's Tote-Ebor Festival, known as the Royal Ascot of the north. Understandably the flat-racing calendar provides some exciting opportunities for corporate entertaining.
